Handling Overlaps & Auto-Promotion

Freelancers often have overlapping pencils.

It is completely normal for someone to be pencilled for two or three projects that might happen in the same week.

🔁 How overlaps work

  • Each project holds a different pencil rank for the same dates.
  • If the 1st pencil confirms, all other pencils for those dates end automatically.
  • If the 1st pencil releases, the 2nd pencil moves up in rank, followed by any lower pencils.

This upward progression is known as auto-promotion.

Auto-promotion keeps the queue fair and chronological, ensuring that whoever was next in line receives the next opportunity.

🎯 Why it matters

Auto-promotion prevents the need to renegotiate every hold after a release.

It maintains order and saves everyone time when multiple projects are in flux.
